Resources from the Library
Green instructional librarians have developed several videos that you can use as stand-alone learning for your students or that students can watch in advance of their library workshop on How to Use Searchworks, How to Search Databases, How to Evaluate Sources, and "Leapfrogging". See the Green library youtube playlist for PWR classes.
They have also recorded two longer videos that provide more details about using library resources, which could be especially useful for PWR2 students who don't have an in-person workshop:
- Spruce Up Your Research Skills: Making the Most of Stanford Libraries with Pauline Lewis
- Introduction to Databases with Phyllis Kayten
You might also want to have students watch former Stanford librarian Chris Bourg's video (created for PWR students), "Research is like cooking."
Further Resources for Integrating Library Work into your Course:
- See our Teaching Writing class activities related to library research
- See additional activities, worksheets, and handouts on the PWR Canvas site (PWR only)
- Check out former PWR instructor Susan Wyle's guide to accessing primary sources at Stanford.
- See librarian Felicia Smith's instructions (to another librarian) for creating an amazing race-style scavenger hunt for PWR 1 students.
