Jenae Cohn published a book chapter, "Talking Back to Texts: An Introduction to Putting the 'Social' in 'Social Annotation'" (download available to users logged into Stanford Canvas only) as part of the edited collection Marginalia in Modern Learning Contexts (IGI Global, 2019, ed. Alan J. Reid).

This quarter, Zandra Jordan facilitated a workshop at the International Writing Center Association Conference called, "Interruptions and Reimaginings: An Afrofuturistic Call and Response on the Citizen Center." On campus, as part of "Soul Power: A Tribute to the Life, Music and Legacy of Aretha Franklin," she delivered an oration: "The Eulogy Aretha Deserves." Also on campus, on the eve of midterm elections, she participated in the roundtable, "Facing Hate in America."  Finally, Zandra led a discussion at All Saints Episcopal Church in Palo Alto on "Talking Across Difference: A Faithful Response."

Emily Polk and PWR fellow alumnus Lauren E. Oakes published an essay in LitHub, "The Scientists' Writing Group: Finding Community in a Burning World" on their experience of contributing to the scientists' writing group at Stanford.

With the help of a PWR Research Award, Becky Richardson presented at the Wordsworth Summer Conference this summer and then visited five archives for research related to nineteenth-century ambition, writing, and ideas about embodied "brain work" -- across the Jerwood Center, the Armitt Library, the Cadbury Research Library in Birmingham, the London School of Economics Women's Library, and the British Library. Additionally, her article on Mary Shelley and the "environmental uncanny" has been accepted for publication at ISLE (Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment).

Irena Yamboliev won an artsCatalyst grant from the Vice President for the Arts to use to support her winter PWR 1 class, "The Art and Science of Gender and its Bending."  She writes, "the grant allowed me to buy tickets for my students to see the play Metamorphoses (dir. Mary Zimmerman) at Berkeley Repertory Theater. Seeing this play will dovetail with the course theme and the emphasis on putting texts in conversation and considering the affordances and constraints of different genres and modalities: The play stages some of the myths about ambiguous genders -- the myth about Hermaphroditus, who starts out as a boy and becomes intersex, and the myth of Iphis and Ianthe, two young women who fall in love with each other and are unable to marry until a goddess transforms one of them into a man -- which will complement our readings of Ovid and of more contemporary updates of the Hermaphroditus myth in the context of the intersex rights movement. And, in addition to the examples of creative non-fiction, scientific articles directed toward the public, and videos we'll consider in class, the play will offer an opportunity to talk about what the different form of drama allows that text and video doesn't. Seeing the play will also be a perfect opportunity to experience the vibrant arts community beyond Stanford."
