Since PWR first became PWR, we have marked the end of the academic year with a celebration for our community. Back in the day, we would venture off campus for these parties, being a small enough group that sometimes people would host at their homes. Here’s a photo from the PWR Archive of the 2003 End of Year party, held at Ann Watters’s house in Menlo Park. In attendance that year: Andrea Lunsford, Marvin Diogenes, Kevin DiPirro, Cristina Huerta and son, Shay Brawn, and many others.
This issue's featured Archive photo captures the Composition Blues Band (CBB) in action at the party (one of its rare local performances!) with vocalist Marvin Diogenes backed up by lecturer Kevin DiPirro on vocals and electric guitar and former lecturer Erik Turkman (now at GW) on bass. The recording has been long lost, sadly.
As Marvin noted with his usual deadpan wit, “Ann’s neighbors told the CBB to stop playing in the yard. It was a drizzly afternoon, causing an electrical shock resulting in the drummer’s unfortunate demise.” (To browse more pics from this celebration, click here to ask for access)
